This is my second time seeing Black Hear Procession. I came to know this band by the now canceled show FOX ROX. I saw them in concert this January, but got lazy and never wrote about that show, or posted the pics. This time around, I was able to tape the whole show with my digital camera. The audio came out good, and the guys put on a great show.
A couple of things happened during the show. There was a girl that was in front who was dancing and waiving her arms while BHP played, then, when the band was getting ready to play "The Old Kind Of Summer" she got on stage, and Pall let her stay. She was a bit annoying, during the song she spilled one of the drinks. She then started dancing to the song. Dancing! Really?!?! To fricking "The Old Kind Of Summer"? That is one of the most depressing songs by BHP, and this girl is ruining it.
When the bassist, and drummer came back on stage, the bassist told her she had to get off the stage cause he needed his space back to play the bass. She was somewhat reluctant to get off stage, until one guy from the audience used one of the mics to tell the girl that we payed good money to see BHP not her. Finally a Casbah bouncer told her to get off the stage, to much applause.
Then during "Blue Water-Black Heart" Pall pointed out into the crowd and said, "Wow!" The same girl that was on stage got into a fight with the audience member that told her to get off the stage. Drinks, Shoves, and fist where thrown, and a Casbah bouncer came and "escorted" her out the place.
During "Tangled" Pall's Amp blew up. Pall tried his best to fix it during the non vocals part of the song, but had to eventually put down his guitar, and sing the song without the guitar sections. They ended up borrowing Japanese Sunday's amp.
In all, it was a crazy night for BHP, but a fun one.
The bands that played before them were good too.
Japanese Sunday was really good. They remind me of Mono, Pelican, and Sleeping People.
And Vision of a Dying World
As Always Pics and Vids of the show. If anybody saw this blog and saw no videos, I apologize. I had my 4 wisdom tooth pulled yesterday, and was uploading the videos, but was in no mood to write.

Dirty Sweet @ The Casbah 04/20/2008
What can I say, there has been a recent rise on the Classic Rock scene. There are bands like Black Mountain, and Wolfmother, who capture the music of the late 60's early 70's done by the likes of Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Cream. I could go on, but you get the idea.
Enter Dirty Sweet, a band I have been meaning to see. I first heard their music when browsing The Casbah's website looking for some new acts to go see. The show was sold out the first time. I then saw that they were going to play at the new Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown San Diego, and then...I simply forgot. Disappointed, I was rejoiced when I saw that they would be playing The Casbah again on April 20th, 2008.
Seeing them live lived up to my expectations, and then more. After playing the full set, they came back for an encore. Then some fans started demaning that they play "Born to Bleed", and they did to close the show. A solid rock n roll band that keeps reminding me of what it would have felt like had I been old enough to live in the era of Monterey '67 and Woodstock. Do yourself a favor and check them out.
The other bands that played were, The Roman Spring: These guys were good. I feel ashame that I did not record some of their set. It was a great performance.
Then there was The Binges: If you have seen a band from Los Angeles, then you have seen The Binges. Sorry, I was just not into their set. but I was glad to see others enjoy their music. However, girls that play the bass win in my eyes.

The Album Leaf @ Casbah Feb 22, 2008
Last night I got to see The Album Leaf for the third time. Just like The Black Heart Procession, I found out about The Album Leaf by the now cancelled show Fox Rox. I really can’t find a way to describe The Album Leaf’s music. It is a mix of electronic, ambient, easy listening. I think of it as a gentler Aphex Twin. You would have to listen to some of Aphex Twin’s more mellow tunes to understand. The album Leaf is Jimmy LaValle (who was also part of The Black Heart Procession). I like the fact that just like Andy Dragazis (Blue States), LaValle knows how to play pretty much all the instruments for the songs (I wonder how Jimmy and Andy would pair up if they were to collaborate). While violin duties fall on Matthew Resovich, who is also part of The Black Heart Procession.
The night started bad. I was suppose to go with someone, but plans fell apart. Upon my arrival I saw that the show had Sold Out. The front man said I had an extra ticket (I was doing a Will Call). To which he pointed out that some people were trying to get in. I ended up giving the extra ticket to a couple. The boyfriend had bought a ticket, but his girlfriend did not have one. I sold it at face value, and I was glad that I was able to make someone happy out of my misery. So yeah, it felt pretty good putting a smile on someone else.
Upon my arrival Manuok was playing. Now I know I have not completed it yet, but I wrote about them on my review of The Black Heart Procession concert in January. They were pretty good. However, I still cannot get into them. Next was a band by the name of Kill Me Tomorrow. They were pretty good. You can hear some influences from The Creatures in their music.
Then The Album Leaf took the stage. It seems to be a tradition for Jimmy LaValle to have mic problems. It happened the first time I saw them play at the Casbah, and also at the Museum of Contemporary Arts Downtown San Diego in 2006. Jimmy, check the mics before you start the show! Or maybe the mics don’t like you. Other than that, the show was great! Great visual playing in the background, and the band was in top form. I taped 4 full songs. I think they could have done an encore, but the crowd started leaving after the last song played, what the heck people. I gave the set list I grabbed to a girl that was standing next to me during the concert. She was really getting into the songs. So I did two nice things that night. However I was able to get another set list when Matthew Resovich came back on stage to pack his violin.
This was my first night using my 4GB SD card, and was hesitant to continue taping the show thinking I would run out of memory. When I got home I discovered that I had only used 1.77GB of memory. For the next concert, I’ll tape a whole lot more!
Enjoy the pics and the videos of Kill Me Tomorrow and The Album Leaf!
